Main Floor Guest Bath (cont'd)

I got a coat of paint on the ceiling of the main floor guest bathroom.   If you will remember I freshened up the trim and then was unsatisfied with the rest of the room.

Huge transformation really .. it's blue

I didn't want to go out, so went downstairs and made my own colour.   I decided to use fabric I already had for a drape, so needed a blue for the ceiling.   I had an inch of white, a part tester of mid blue and one of navy, and a bit of gray.   It made up about a half a litre of paint ... surely that will do 2 coats on the tiny ceiling.

The paint swatch on the fabric is the colour I think I will paint the walls - Benjamin Moore 'Hudson Bay' CC-810. Funny how you just have paint strips in the drawer.   With the white vanity, sink and toilet I don't think it will be too dark.  I'll get it on the way home from work tomorrow.

Oh .. and just I confirmed the family is coming for Thanksgiving (Canadian) on Sunday ... is there a chance I can get this room painted, make a drape, take in the patio furniture, take out all the annuals from my garden, decorate for Fall and organize a meal???

Just freshen up the trim ....

The trim in my main floor guest bathroom was looking a little tatty.   In fact, all the trim in the house is.

So I thought "quick fix".    RIGHT!

Now that the trim and door are looking so sparkling, I am noticing that the paint job I inherited is not very good.   There is wall paint on the edges of the ceiling.   The towel holder is coming a little loose ... and it isn't in the position I would really like it to be.

Suddenly my little trim job has worked into something much bigger .... paint, a new towel holder, a new mirror as long as I'm doing the room and the window needs a drape.

I'll just freshen up the trim ... famous last words.

Where it all happens ....

I finally had a friend over for dinner, so that prompted me to clean house.   Even the office/craft room got tidied enough that I could take pictures without mounds of stuff on every surface. 

I wanted the room to be functional, but feminine and that prompted me to use the red toile.   I have had a roll of this Waverly fabric in my closet for ages (I got it on sale when a fabric store was closing down and knew I would use it somewhere) .. so I used it for drapes and seat cushions.

Storage:

The cabinet was a lacquered white unit that my parents, who married in 1949, used in their first kitchen. I stripped it to the natural pine.

My scrapbook supplies, in 12 x 12 inch drawer units, fit perfectly in bottom.

Every office/craft room needs a bulletin board .. for ideas, inspiration and in this case, also for my thread storage.

My craft/office

I am going to do a post on my craft/office space ... but I have to wait until it is tidy enough to take pictures.   But I thought I could show you some things above cluttered desk height!

This is the first time I have had an office/craft room.  I work from home on Fridays and used to work at my kitchen table.  This is way more organized.   It is also fabulous for all my crafts ... quilting and scrapbooking ... and now blogging.    You can keep at whatever you are doing, close the door and the rest of the house stays tidy ... well, as tidy as it gets.

Since this is a craft room, I made most of my art myself.

The original blue painting on the shelf is a 'finger painting' I did in Kindergarden.   When my Mother moved out of the family home, it was in a box of truly clever things my brothers and I had done.  The 12x12 pictures below are scrapbook frames with pictures of quilts I have made ... some I still have, some are baby gifts, or presents for my family.  

           

This grouping shows a quilt block in the colours of the room (yellow and red) which I framed in an Ikea frame.

And neither  craft or work related ... a picture of my cat "Sam", sharing my space.
