Headboard ... a little "out of the box"

I wanted to replace the upholstered headboard in my guestroom with a white, wooden one.
I had this in the garage ... I had bought three last year when they were being cleared for $5 each.
The shelves were 12" wide, so I used 4 and a half shelves.  I attached them together with a board at the bottom, and trim at the top.
I primed and gave it a partial coat of blue as I wanted blue showing thru in my antiquing.
Then a couple coats of white and sanded it back.

Oh my ... I love it!
Then I hung on the wall over my bed.
Exactly what I wanted.

  1. Sharon - oh my gosh - that is AMAZING! What a great idea - if it was from Ikea you could have what the blog world calls an amazing Ikea-Hack!

    Well done!

  2. Looks fabulous, Sharon! It reminds me of those very expensive 'fence style' headboards I've seen around. What a super idea! I also love the quilt on the bed. Did you make it?

  17. What a brilliant idea! I followed the link from DIY Showoff, and I must say I did a double take when I saw the bookcase and then your headboard. I had to check it out for myself, and I'm glad I did.
