It was perfect ...

We were up at 4:00AM to catch the Royal Wedding.   The rain held off in London and it was perfect ... a beautiful bride and groom, cheering crowds, horse drawn carriges!!
We had fancy sandwiches, sweets, scones and cream, champagne and TONS of tea!

Dust Off Your Tiara!

One more sleep til the wedding!

Not a full sleep ... I'm going to a Royal Wedding sleepover and we are getting up at 3:00AM to watch all the festivities.

I have to be back at work at Noon ... I hope I don't imbibe too much Champagne!!!

Spring in the Bedroom

I showed you earlier the fabrics I had chosen to make a Spring quilt.
Well, it is done.   I got it back from the quilter and put the binding on.  Just in time for Spring to arrive (surely any day now!)
I wanted something fresh in a less traditional pattern

This is the back ... I don't like a plain back.  It seems like a wasted canvas.
When you fold over the top, you see the design from the front.
Janet Chisholm did my quilting.   She did a fabulous job.
Into the summer, I like to use a white Matleisse coverlet, and I'll fold the quilt at the bottom for a bit of colour.  This is how it will usually look.
It seems like I'm turning into a quilting blog, but I'm not.   It is just in between seasons, not much to do outside, I'm not incented to start a project inside and with all the rain I can amuse myself for hours sewing.

Happy Easter.

I'm off work tomorrow for Good Friday, and I'm hoping the Spring weather finally kicks in.  As you can tell from my blog, I haven't done any home improvements in a while.   I think it is the fault of the cold weather!  I really am ready to get outside, dig in thegarden, get the patio furniture out and have tea in the garden.   This is definitely not a happening any time soon here in Toronto; but in anticipation, I don't have any inside projects lined up.   I've been sewing a lot ... really that's all you can do with all the rain lately.

I am sure Spring will arrive any day now.   Hope you have a great Easter.

I'm Caught Up

I am caught up on my Civil War quilt blocks.
Cotton Boll
London Square
Tears for Texas
(see the T in the dark fabric)

White House
Richmond

I don't know what I'm going to do now I'm down to one block a week.

I'm a Maniac!

I'm obsessed with doing these Civil War quilt blocks.

Birds in the Air
Louisiana
Log Cabin
Little Blue Basket
Fox and Geese
Lincoln's Platform
Kansas Troubles
Fort Sumter
This is my favourite block so far ... the brown is the fort, the blue is the water and the red is the incoming canon fire.

They all have the most interesting stories.  I only have three more to go to be caught up and then I'll only have one a week for the rest of the year to make.

Civil War Quilt

I watched the Ken Burn's documentary "The Civil War" again on PBS this week.  This year is the 150th Anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War.

I have been following a blog "The Civil War Quilts" created by Barbara Brackman.  To commenorate the Anniversary she is posting a different quilt block every week, explaining the relationship of the block to the war and giving some civil war history.

I was in a quilt store today and decided that I would do the quilt, so I stocked up on Civil War prints .   Barbara started in January, so I'm a little behind; but I just finished the first two blocks-
"Catch Me if You Can".   .
I'll show you the rest as I catch up and throughout the year.
