Beefing up the Mantel

My mantel started like this ... shiny pine.
Then I decided last week to paint it:
I was happy with the painted mantel, but I decided to beef it up with more wood and mouldings: 
I like it.  It's more substantial.

    much better presence - really like what you ahve done. As I have mentioned before, it's on my todo list. will let you know how it goes. Perhaps something cream on your hearth would tie it in even more.

    Very nice! I like it beefed up too and the white paint really pops against the brick.
