Hang it up

I love dishes.   I have stacks in the basement.  When I go in an antique store, flea market, yard sale or stores I naturally gravitate to dishes.

Last year in a tiny store in a little town I found a plate exactly like the ones my Grandmother used.   Of course I snapped it up ... and it's in that pile in the basement.

I have a lot of blue and white transfer dishes and I need to hang them up ... here's some inspiration:

from Nester

Love the dimension on this one ... from Casa Sugar

So feminine      from Shelter Pop
I love the message on these   From Thread Banger
Dramatic    from Apartment Therapy
I love how they carried the plates onto the table below; makes a very static display have more interest.

I should have left them on the truck .....

My new chairs arrived yesterday.   As soon as the door on the truck opened I knew .... they had used the wrong upholstery tacks.
The guys brought them into my living room, and the chairs are really lovely, but the tacks are too big.   They are too masculine and sort of mediterranean .... I'm looking for smaller, traditional, English.
So tomorrow, I'm on the phone to the furniture place.   Isn't it always something?

On the other hand, I do love the cushions I bought at Home Sense.   They are green with small thread designs in the colour of the chair.
Sorry for the flash, but needed it to get the colour.

My other chair and ottoman are at the reupholster's, I have an oil painting in being reframed.  I'm looking for a coffee table.  It is slowing coming together!

When you think Quilts, do you think Sarah Richardson?

When I think about Sarah Richardson, I typically think of her contemporary, sleek look.   But she can do Country as well.    I'm a quilter and love the look of quilts on beds and Sarah has  a number of them in her current "Sarah's Home 3" and in her own cottage:

Country master bedroom (Sarah's House - Season 3)
Uptown, graphic country
a guest room in the 3rd Season house
at her cottage: sweet for her daughters
Classic red and white Master at the cottage:

My Hero

My sister-in-law Donna is my hero.

Donna is a breast cancer survivor.  She was the most calm and positive person dealing with her illness in 1996 and has since gone on to live her life enjoying every moment.

She works tirelessly now to raise money for breast cancer research.   This weekend was the Relay for Life in Oakville.   Donna was on the organizing committee and on a relay team.   She personally raised over $1,000, her team over $12,000, and the event over $450,000!!!

I was at the event on Friday night to support the cause (no matter the weather) ... it was very moving and inspiring.

Sneak Peak

It will be finished tomorrow!!!  My new front walkway.

The walkway was looking a little ratty ... it had old railway ties and sunken interlock bricks.
I had put the garden in when I moved here, but there was one HUMUNGOUS yew that was there already and I had it removed while I had a crew available ... so after all the hardscape is done tomorrow, I'll have to redo the garden.   I hadn't done anything to the garden this year except an initial trim as I knew I was having the walkway redone.

Here are some sneak peaks:

I worked from home today to supervise, but I'm back to the office tomorrow while they finish up.   Looking forward to coming home to my new walkway.

I'll probably stop at the garden centre on the way home.   I'm an instant gratification girl and I'll want the beds to look nice too.
