Old Window

When I was at the cottage last weekend, my friend gave me an old window.   I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I'm sure I can find a space for it.   It has some nice crackle.

Christmas Cake is made ...

I made Christmas Cake on the weekend.   In our family it's not Christmas without Christmas Cake.
Not the wimpy store bought kind ... the kind with tons of cherries, raisins, dates, gum drops ... made with love by me!

All done but for the basting with copious amounts of booze!!!!

Greenery Day

Saturday was my "Greenery Day" with the girls.    We go to Nancy's cottage and cut greenery for our holiday pots. .... well really we stop all along the way at shops ... and especially at "Butter Tarts and More" in Little Britain!     It's more about getting together with the girls, shopping, eating, drinking, talking and laughing.

This year we stopped at a store to get some pine.   We can cut cedar, spruce and dogwood at the cottage, but I love the look of soft pine.   In order to get a group shot, we had the cashier take our picture.   She had to shut down her cash ... Everyone in the store thought we were nuts!
The first thing we did on arrival at the cottage was set the table (with our coats on while the furnace kicked in).   It's all about the tablescape.  We all brought something for the table this year.

We went out in the bitter cold, cut our branches then returned to the cottage for hors d'ouvres, gift exchange and lunch.   It was hard to leave at the end of the day after all that fresh air and relaxing in front of a roaring fire.

And here is all my greenery:

Isn't he cute? ..... got him at the bazaar two weeks ago.

Craft Room

I love my office/craft room.   I work from home at least a day a week, and can set up my TP and work looking out onto the yard.   My 'desk' is a large table.  This room is also my craft room and I need a large surface to cut/sew on.  The opposite wall has tons of shelves for craft supplies/books.

But I'm always looking for inspiration.

A craft room/office needs a great work surface, tons of storage, comforable seating and effective lighting.
Sorry I don't know where these images are from.

who does it better than Martha?

Let the Holiday Season begin ....

Traditionally, the first holiday event we have is the Port Nelson United Church bazaar.   I leave home at 7:00 in order to get to my brother's home, spend an hour getting my neice Allison going, and we're there for the 9:00 start.

My favourite booth is the "Whimsical Folk Art"  ... always good for a couple gifts:

Then we hit the book sale:
We passed up the bake sale this year.   Nothing could be as good as Allison's treats ... my neice is taking baking and pastry arts at George Brown ... and really, whose baking could compare?

Then we ran off to check out a Cooking store, but returned for the Chili lunch.   I love traditions.

Sorry you weren't able to make it Donna.   My sister-in-law was at a Relay for Life conference all weekend.   You missed a good time.

Books ... as a Headboard

I love books ... on shelves, on coffee tables, stacked on the floor.
Here's a new use ... as a headboard!

Image from Houzz
I think this would be really cute in a kid's room, or a little reading nook.
It could also be used as a bulletin board.   You could easily stick pins in the book covers.

Busy Weekend

I've been sewing on the quilt for my bedroom.   The main centre is done, just have to add a couple borders.
Of course, I got sidetracked and decided I wanted to do a Christmas quilt ... so I've been working on that too.   The top for that is complete, just a lap size quilt for when I'm watching TV.

Of course the tops are the easy part .... once I finish my bed quilt, I'll have to quilt and bind them.  I'll show you the finished quilts soon (?)

Block of the Month

I belong to a Quilt Guild.   This year we are doing a "Block of the Month" quilt throughout the year.
Our meeting is tomorrow, and I just got my block done.   I made two of these.

I have no idea what the finished quilt will look like ...

All Snug as a Bug ...

I'm all snug now ... the roof is on!

Let the winter begin!   (did I say that out loud?) I can only say it because I just mailed the cheque to the snow plough guy.

The shingles look a bit rough because it was cold when they put them on ... the installer ensured me that with some nice warm sun, they will lay down beautifully.

Don't you just hate big ticket items like a roof.   You can't really say "come on over and see my new roof", and I REALLY want to when I spend that much money :-))
